The Responsible Groom – CPD Course.
The Association of British Riding Schools have partnered with Lingfield Equine Distance Learning to offer an affordable Certificated Equine CPD course for ABRS+ Riding School grooms and staff (employees on the payroll).
A professionally produced CPD course for ABRS+ Riding School grooms and staff. There have been numerous successes to date on the Responsible Groom course.

** Note: The course is aimed at those beyond foundation level in equine care. Adjustments can be arranged for those with minimum equine experience – email Paula in the Lingfield office at enrolment time.
Employer simply tailors course timetable to fit own needs
This distance learning course covers topics relevant to employees at commercial riding establishments. The economical way to provide certificated proof of staff training, to abide by current legislation and to avoid away days, travelling and attending set training courses.
The course includes topics relevant specifically to your type of equine hire business. Most of the topics are outside the normal sphere of equine management so do not conflict with or duplicate regular equine training.
Topics explain regulations & working policies and how they affect the daily lives of your staff, the animals they care for and your customers. Environmental issues related to mucking out, good muck heap management and waste water issues are also covered. There is provision of some very basic physiology and more advanced detail on lameness identification and advanced physiology well beyond foundation level. (See ** Note above)
On completion, your staff member will have a better understanding of how your business works in today’s regulated world and just as importantly, why those regulations are in place. The material incorporates details on staff responsibilities relating to policies, teamwork, awareness of current regulations and mindfulness of the welfare of others both human and animal.
The course will be of real benefit not only to your staff members – but by default, to you their employer.
- The Riding School proprietor must personally pay for and enrol their staff member on this ABRS Responsible Groom course.
- For the non riding school proprietors or those staff members paying for their own course Lingfield offers a separate Open Access Responsible Groom course accredited by UKRS.

- A responsible IT literate person at yard – who understands about downloading/saving files, is able to oversee and assist the staff and will co-ordinate the enrolments, individual confirmation of saving and opening of files by every staff member, plus co-ordinating course completion all on same day and time thus enabling group processing for enrolments, assignments and certification.
