The ABRS+ would like to thank all those volunteers who so freely give of their time, energy and enthusiasm to support their local riding centre. They are often unsung heroes but without them many rising centres would struggle to survive. Looking through the many nominations the ABRS+ received, volunteers come in all ages and undertake many different roles – from welcoming clients, through grooming horses and mucking out stables to manning receptions. They are friends, supporters and shoulders to cry on. They make such a huge difference.
The ABRS+ would like to congratulate Dot Williams, who is the ABRS+ Volunteer of the Year 2024. She received a huge number of nominations from staff, volunteers and clients, who all spoke of an inspirational person.
Dot has for many years given up her free time to help out at Houston Farm Riding School – greeting clients, helping volunteers and staff, putting on cake bakes & fairs to raise money for the school’s retired ponies. Dot fosters children and, having been through the all the training associated with fostering, she provides invaluable support to staff and volunteers with her amazing ability to get to the heart of any matter and find solutions. On top of fostering and looking after her grandchildren,
Dot still finds time to volunteer in the shop at Houston Farm Riding School. Dot has a lovely way with both the parents and the children as well as all the other clients and staff. She is invaluable when there are children’s parties and helps keep the helpers in line! Dot has such a bright, bubbly attitude and always cheers others up. She is kindest, hardest working and patient person and is so deserving of the ABRS+ Volunteering Award.
