In today’s- 20th May- issue of Horse and Hound Magazine, George Baber, ABRS+ Trustee and Director of Member Services and Operations, features in an article discussing the eligibility of riding schools and equestrian premises for restart grants, despite initial confusion. It stated that a business may be eligible if it is based in England, rate-paying, in one of the applicable ‘sectors and trading on 1 April. The accompanying guidance includes “indoor riding schools” among the eligible businesses, leading to some schools being turned down for grants as they only had outdoor arenas. A government spokesperson has now confirmed to H&H that both Indoor and Outdoor facilities could be eligible.
The proprietors of such premises can contact their Local Authorities to check their eligibility for the grants- of up to £18,000- to assist in the restart of business safely now restrictions have eased. It is understood that some livery yards have also been eligible for this grant where their local authority has deemed that they meet the criteria.

This is just one of the few examples of the ABRS+ lobbying for clarification and support for their members to obtain funding and financial support after what has been a tumultuous 14 months for many. Hopefully entering a new post-lockdown era, this can provide much-needed resources to ensure the continuation of our much-loved riding establishments.
