Jane Williams, the ABRS+ Chair, has made the following comment on the occasion of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee:
‘The ABRS+ and our members wish Her Majesty our best wishes on this celebration of her Platinum Jubilee, which marks a truly remarkable 70 years of service as our Monarch. For those of us in the equine world, we have been blessed by Her Majesty’s deep knowledge, life-long interest and active support – whether this be at grass roots or competitive riding, horse breeding or horse racing. We have seen this expressed through her patronages – the BHS, the Fell, Highland and Welsh Pony Associations, and the Shire Horse Association – and through her attendance and support of so many equine events over the decades. We have also seen this through her family, who have represented the Nation in the Olympics, played Polo, and undertaken competitive carriage driving. The ABRS+ represents the riding schools, livery yards and riding establishments that will provide the riders of tomorrow. We and our members are eternally grateful for the Her Majesty’s self-evident passion for riding which has ensured and enabled riding to be, and remain, a mainstream sport, hobby and pursuit. Her Majesty became the first recipient of the FEI Lifetime Achievement award in 2014 in recognition of her leading role as supporter of equestrian sport throughout her reign; it is absolutely clear that this award remains as valid and current today as it was when awarded in 2014.”
To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we have created a short fact sheet covering Her Majesty’s interests in horses. It can be found here:
