A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended this year’s ABRS+ Annual Conference. Your participation made the event a resounding success. Held on 14th October at the Unicorn Equestrian Centre, the conference brought together equestrian professionals for a day of valuable insights and discussions.
Jodie Hall McAteer gave a keynote address focussing on her journey from learning to ride in a riding school to one of UK’s leading show jumpers.
Jim Eyre, CEO of British Equestrian Federation, gave an industry update, highlighting grassroots challenges and Team GB’s success in Paris 2024. Carole Andrews shared strategies for creating a positive work environment and staff retention in riding schools. Roly Owers OBE explored the impact of social licensing on equestrian businesses.
Ben Mayes and Carolyn Madgwick provided updates on council licensing and veterinary standards, while George Baber OBE introduced changes to the ABRS+ Tests and Rosettes syllabus to enhance client retention.
A key feature of the event was a live demonstration, showcasing best practices in horse management and practical equestrian skills by Dr. Celia Grummitt of Gul Outdoor Therapy.
Workshops covered topics from gaining and retaining clients, through riding school management and sustainability, to Equine Assisted Services, offering practical advice for improving riding centres: by Louise Fitton, Ruth Dance, Jack Joynston and Celia Grummitt.
